Honestly, if this is still news to people, I'm kind of disappointed in the human race. I mean, not Hot Wheels specifically, but the very first thing I learned when I got my first debit card was "cash-back is cheaper than ATMs and then I end up with Reese's to boot." It's just common sense.

I always did this with gum from the checkout lane. Going back to the Hot Wheels section never crossed my mind.

A lot of people have to pay fees if they use other bank's ATMs. The fees are usually $3-4. Supermarkets allow you to get cash back if you buy something. So instead of paying a $3 to get $20 at an off-network ATM, you can pay $1.50 to get $20 cashback, and go home with a Hot Wheels car.
Some banks only allow you X number of free ATM uses if your balance is lower than some predetermined amount. Or maybe you're traveling to an area where your bank doesn't have any ATMs. For instance, I will be in Arizona for the next month an a half, and my bank doesn't have any branches or ATMs out there, so this is a great way for me to get cash.
